Our dentist and team will provide you with several instructions before you receive anesthesia for your treatment. Please follow these instructions to help ensure your comfort during your procedure. Prior To Your Procedure
- Begin fasting as directed by our dentist. If your procedure is in the morning you may need to begin fasting the night before. If you have an afternoon appointment make sure not to eat anything for eight hours prior to your arrival at our office.
- While fasting, drink only clear fluids (water, apple juice, black coffee, sports drinks, etc.).
- Do not drink opaque liquids such as milk, alcohol, orange juice or creamer.
- Do not drink any fluids within six hours of your procedure.
- Do not drink any alcoholic beverages or use tobacco products within 24 hours of your procedure.
Avoid the following medications for two days before your appointment:
- MAO inhibitors
- Antidepressants
- Aspirin
- Anticoagulants
- Anti-inflammatories
You may continue to take the following types of medications with small sips of water:
- Heart medications
- Pulmonary medications
- Steroids
- Anti-seizure medications
- Anti-Parkinson’s medications
The Day Of Your Procedure
The day of your surgery, please remember to:
- Brush your teeth normally. Do not swallow water or toothpaste.
- Do not wear makeup or nail polish.
- Do not wear contact lenses, jewelry or dentures.
- Wear loose, comfortable clothing and flat-soled shoes. Shirts with short sleeves are preferred.
Minors receiving a surgical procedure must have a parent or legal guardian present for the entirety of their procedure.
You should have someone available to drive you home following your procedure, as well as someone who can remain with you for at least 12 hours following treatment. You will not be able to drive, operate machinery, or return to school or work. You may need assistance if climbing stairs or attempting other tasks.
If you experience or notice any changes in your health the morning of your appointment, contact us right away. We will discuss them with you and reschedule your procedure if necessary.
